Remote Patient monitoring (rpm) is growing fast! Are you ready?

Blood Pressure Monitor

During the pandemic, the Telehealth market saw significant growth. However, Telehealth growth has diminished. However, with expansion of the IoT (Internet of Things) applications in the Healthcare industry, the remote patient monitoring for chronic conditions has grown significantly since 2019. The field continues to show significant growth opportunities year-over-year, too.

However, due to severe labor shortages in the US healthcare market, most clinics find it difficult to hire staff to monitor patients, provide advise and subsequently submit claims for such services. Globe Centrix can help!

Growth of RPM in numbers

According to the Definitive Healthcare, the initial set up and onboarding of a patient to an RPM device (CPT 99453) increased nearly 572% compared to 2019. Year over year, the same CPT code claims increased by about 40%.

Likewise, CPT 99454 (remote monitoring of physiologic parameter(s) (eg, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, respiratory flow rate), initial; device(s) supply with daily recording(s) or programmed alert(s) transmission, each 30 days) saw a year over year jump of 97%.

The CPT 99457 (remote physiologic monitoring treatment management services, 20 minutes or more of clinical staff/physician/other qualified healthcare professional time in a calendar month requiring interactive communication with the patient/caregiver during the month) grew more than 147% year over year.

The CPT 99458 (remote physiologic monitoring treatment management services, clinical staff/physician/other qualified health care professional time in a calendar month requiring interactive communication with the patient/caregiver during the month; each additional 20 minutes (list separately in addition to code for primary procedure)) saw growth of 176.5%.

Challenges for the Clinics

The clinics aspiring to offer remote patient monitoring services face multiple challenges. First, selecting the right partner with easy to use interface can be time consuming. Once a device partner is selected, training the employees in the monitoring software/web interface is the next challenge. Finally, once the monitoring services are set up, thousands of monthly claims need to be addressed.

While the first two challenges can be handled by the clinic physicians and their US based staff, the challenge of claim submission can be easily outsourced to a company like Globe Centrix. We have trained staff that works with US clinics in claim submissions for blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar monitoring and weight monitoring.
